The Atlantic City Electric company increased their default supply rates on October 1, 2011 by 18%, causing an increase in electric switching activity among customers.
The default rate includes all aspects of the electricity generation supply. The increase does not effect the regulated distribution delivery charges that are stated on the bill.
Atlantic City Electric customers still paying default service with the utility can control the increase by shopping for competitive electricity rates. The New Jersey Electricity Competition and Choice Act gives Atlantic City Electric customers the option to switch electric supply companies. Currently competitive rates are significantly lower than ACE default rates.
